Using any third party FTP client software, connect to ftp.drivehq.com at the default port 21.
Log on using your DriveHQ username and password. You don't need to specify a folder name.
Using Internet Explorer, you can enter the URL: ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@ftp.drivehq.com/.
DriveHQ FileManager is our native client software. It requires no
configuration and works better than any other FTP client software.
- Can I use other FTP client(s)?
Yes. You can access your virtual FTP Server using any popular FTP clients, including CuteFTP,
WS FTP,
FileZilla, etc.
DriveHQ FileManager is strongly recommended as it is native to our service and thus is has a lot more features, and it requires no configuration.
- How much does it cost to host my FTP site on DriveHQ?
If you are already using DriveHQ service, there is no additional charge for the FTP service.

- What is the download limit?
For paid users, the monthly download limit is 4 times of storage space subscribed, which is usually far more than enough, unless you host some heavy traffic websites, or if you share some large files with a lot of users. If you do need a lot of download bytes, please contact DriveHQ sales. We may offer you a special discount.
- What is the No.1 technical advice that users should know?
When accessing behind a firewall, please set FTP access mode to PASSIVE(PASV).
Note Microsoft's command-line FTP client does not support passive FTP, please use other FTP clients.
- I am not a DriveHQ user, and I received a share notification e-mail from my friend. Can I access the shared folder using FTP?
Yes, the instruction is in the share notification e-mail.
You need to sign up a free DriveHQ account using this email address, then log on using your username and password. The shared files will appear in your account in a special folder: \DriveHQ Share\OtherUserName\ShareName
- What access level will I have for a shared folder from a friend?
If you are not a DriveHQ member, you will have read-only access to a shared folder, even if the file owner; set a higher level of access to you. To access at the authorized level, please sign up an account on DriveHQ.com.
- Can I share a folder to one user with write permission, and another user with read-only permission?
Yes. You can logon www.drivehq.com or DriveHQ FileManager, share the folder with "Full Access" permission to one user; and then share the same folder again to another user with read-only permission. When sharing the same folder again, you must use a different share name.
- Can I let anybody access my folder without an account and without logon?
Yes, you must be a Paid Member or True Member. You can logon www.drivehq.com or DriveHQ FileManager and publish a folder.
Files in a published folder can be downloaded by any users without logon. See the next question for more info.
- Can I create and manage sub-accounts?
Yes, just logon www.drivehq.com, click on My Account and then click on Group Account. You can upgrade your account to a Group Account for free. You can then create or manage sub-accounts. As a group owner or administrator.
- Does DriveHQ FTP support anonymous logon?
Yes, but it works slightly different. If you logon anonymously, you can only access "Published" folders. To let other users logon anonymously, you must publish a folder first. If you want to logon anonymously, then you must know the publisher's username (e.g. "Mike"). You can then log on with the user name "anonymous" and your e-mail address as the password. Once connected, enter the folder "/Mike", and you will see all the folders that Mike has published.
- Files in a published folder can be accessed directly with static FTP links like:
ftp://ftp.drivehq.com/USERNAME/PUBLISHNAME/FILENAME
e.g.: ftp://ftp.drivehq.com/DriveHQ/DriveHQSoftware/DriveHQFileManager.exe
- Is DriveHQ service very secure? Is it compliant with HIPAA, SAS 70, ISO or SOX?
Certain industries have high security requirements. DriveHQ service is designed to be extremely secure and can be used to help you meet such compliance requirements. By default, your files are secure and private. Other people cannot access your files.
DriveHQ supports SSL, which is the same security protocol used by major banks. For ultimate security and privacy, DriveHQ client software supports encryted folder. When uploading files to an encrypted folder, your data is encrypted locally on your computer before uploaded to DriveHQ server. Even DriveHQ support staff cannot read your files.
